Fechner Day 2001 The Seventeenth Annual Meeting of the International Society for Psychophysics with a preceding conference celebrating THE 200th BIRTHDAY of G.Th. FECHNER Leipzig, October 19th - 23rd, 2001
Dear ISP member, dear friend of Gustav Theodor Fechner: This time the Fechner Day is held in a year in which the university and city of Leipzig, where Fechner lived and worked more than 60 years, celebrate the bicentenary of his birth. To mark this event, the Seventeenth Annual ISP meeting will be preceded by a two-day event devoted to Fechner's life and his work with respect to his lasting contributions to various branches of modern science. This event will run from the evening of October the 19th to the afternoon of October the 20th. Following a short break, the sessions of the Fechner Day will start in the afternoon of October the 20th. You are cordially invited to participate in both parts of the conference. Alternatively, you may of course, register for the Fechner Day only (October the 20th - 23rd). The commemorative meeting in the evening of Friday, October the 19th includes a special lecture in honor of G.Th. Fechner. This will take place at the Altes Rathaus (the 'Old Town Hall'). On Saturday, October the 20th, the session on Fechner's life, work and significance for modern sciences and the subsequent session and round table discussion on problems of measuring sensation (marking the start of the Annual Meeting of the ISP) will be held at the Neues Rathaus (the 'New City Hall'). Both buildings, which stem from different historical periods, are of particular architectural beauty. The subsequent theme and poster sessions as well as discussions and the business meeting of the ISP will convene at the Renaissance Leipzig Hotel on Sunday the 21st - Tuesday the 23rd. The program and the basic information you will need for planning your stay can be found on the following pages. On Wednesday, October the 24th, following the Fechner Day meeting, a sightseeing tour of Dresden will be offered provided there is sufficient interest. If you are interested, please let us know at the time of your registration. We are looking forward to seeing you in Leipzig!
